My Second Craft Fair Experience – Bigger, Better, and a Huge Success!

This past weekend was my second-ever craft fair, and I’m so excited to share how it all went! Looking back at where I started last year with just one table, I can’t believe how much things have already grown.
The Weather Scare That Worked in My Favor
The forecast called for rain all day, which made me nervous at first. Luckily, the rain held off until late that night, so we ended up with a beautiful day. Because of the forecast, quite a few vendors didn’t show up—which, as it turns out, was a huge win for me.
Since I was already set up at the same location as last year, I got to claim not just one spot, but two vendor spots for the price of one. That meant I had way more room to spread out, display my plushies, and create a fun shopping experience.
From One Table to Four!
Last year, I had one small table squeezed into a single spot, which made it tricky for more than one family to browse at a time. This year was a total upgrade—I had four tables arranged in an endcap style, with a stand for plushies and enough space for people to walk around the entire display.
It worked perfectly! Families could check out different tables at the same time, and everything was neatly spread out so people could see all of my creations without feeling crowded. It felt like a real shop corner, and it made me so proud to see how professional it looked compared to last year.
The Event Vibes
This craft fair is always a kid-centered event, which makes it such a fun atmosphere. There was a free train ride, face painting, fire trucks, and plenty of excited kids running around. They were supposed to have a bounce house too, but because of the weather forecast, that didn’t end up happening.
Even with the fun, attendance was a little lower than last year—probably because there were four other craft fairs within 10 miles on the same day, plus other community events happening. So the crowd flow wasn’t as steady. But despite that, I still made about the same amount in sales as last year, which I consider a total success since I had way more products this time!
Behind the Scenes Setup
We woke up at 6 a.m. to finish pricing plushies, though I have to laugh because the night before my partner promised he’d wake up early to make bacon for breakfast… only for him to roll out of bed at 7 a.m. Instead, he saved the day by bringing McDonald’s to the fair while also delivering my fourth table.
Setup started at 8 a.m., with the fair kicking off at 10. It took us about an hour and a half to get everything just right. I had even done a mock setup at home the day before, but honestly, nothing compares to the real deal. Seeing all my plushies lined up in the booth was so satisfying—it made all the early mornings and late-night crocheting worth it.
Family Came to Support
One of my favorite parts of the day was having family there. My father-in-law and his wife were set up right next to us, which made the event extra fun since we got to hang out and chat between customers. My mom also stopped by with my youngest son, who’s only three.
He didn’t quite understand that people were buying Mama’s creations—he thought they were stealing! At one point, he yelled out, “That’s Mama’s!” which made everyone laugh. It’s little moments like that which made the day so special.
Looking Ahead
This craft fair left me feeling inspired and excited for what’s next. I already have another event lined up in November, and I’ve been busy working on new plushies to debut there. My new crochet turkey pattern is almost ready to release (it’s ridiculously cute), and I’m also planning a gnome plushie that I think will be a big hit.
Reflecting back:
Year one: one craft fair
Year two: two craft fairs
Year three: who knows?! Hopefully even more!
This location, at the fire station, is definitely on my list to do again next year. It’s family-friendly, fun, and just the right atmosphere for my plushies. Craft fairs have quickly become one of my favorite parts of running this little business, and I can’t wait to see where it all goes from here.
