New Crochet Geode Rocks – Exploring Texture, Color, and Shine

Lately, I’ve been diving into something new and exciting with my crochet work—and I’m so thrilled to finally share it with you! I’ve started experimenting with crocheted geode rocks, and the results have turned out way cooler than I even imagined.

Each one is uniquely shaped and colored, inspired by the stunning, natural beauty of real geodes. These crocheted gems are soft, textured, and sparkly in their own way—and yes, they even have a little bit of that magical “shine” that real crystals have. That’s thanks to a little trick I tried: I added beads to the inside, which catch the light and give them an extra dimension, kind of like the shimmer of a real geode when it’s cracked open. It might sound strange, but trust me—it worked! The weight and sparkle they add are unexpectedly perfect.

So far, I’ve made five of these beauties, and I used a mix of yarns to test out how each one would behave. The main yarn I used was Premier Parfait Chunky and Premier Parfait XL—if you’ve worked with it before, you already know how plush and soft it is. It’s ideal for projects like this, where texture really brings things to life. I also made one using standard acrylic yarn, just to see how it compared. While the acrylic version still looked nice, I found that the Parfait yarns gave the geodes a fuller, more luxe look (plus, they’re just so much more fun to squish!).

Out of all the color combinations I’ve done so far, I have to say my favorite is the blue one. There’s something so dreamy and ocean-like about it—like it could’ve been found on the shore of some magical beach. The way the colors blend and contrast really brings the whole geode illusion to life. I’m completely in love with it, and I think I’ll make another one (or two) in similar shades soon.

This has been such a fun creative detour for me. It’s not just about making something pretty—it’s also about the challenge of re-creating something organic and irregular like a geode using soft materials and yarn. There’s so much more to explore here, from experimenting with new color palettes to trying different sizes and textures. I’m definitely planning to make more and see where the idea takes me.

For those of you wondering, these geodes won’t be available for sale on my website, at least not for now. But if you’re planning to attend the September craft fair I’ll be at, you’re in luck! I’ll be bringing all five of these with me, and maybe a few more by then if I get time to keep creating. They’ll be available for purchase in person, and you’ll be able to see (and squish!) them up close.

I can’t wait to see how people react to them in person. They’re a little bit whimsical, a little bit earthy, and definitely unlike anything I’ve crocheted before. I’ll be posting more photos soon as I make new ones, and who knows—maybe down the line I’ll consider writing up a pattern if there’s interest.

Until then, I’ll be working on adding more geodes to the collection. Thanks so much for following along on this creative adventure. 💙

Happy stitching,

Glamorous Sloth Crochet
